vick should have been fined and got probation thats all

bingo, if the family had not wanted the money they could have gotten a lot more severe punishment. Vick didn't get screwed over, he got what he deserved. Stalworth should have gotten more than Vick but the family took the money and ran with it. It is kind of hard for the dog's family to take the money and run.Quote:

Why are these two cases being compared? What does one have to do with the other? Nothing that I can see.
If the point of the thread is that our justice system is a shambles, then yes, it is. But just because one guys gets a slap on the wrist for a serious offence and another gets a relatively stiff sentence for a seemly lesser crime really have no bearing on each other. It Happens every single day, actually every single hour in this country.
A quick example I've pointed out in the past: Defense Attorney Gerry Spence has not lost a criminal case since 1975! That right, 1975! Do you really think every one of his clients were innocent?
On the other hand Vincent Bugliosi only lost one case as a prosecutor. One case ever! Do you really think every one of those others were guilty?
So, any reasonable person should assume that Spence has given many a criminal his freedom and Bugliosi has locked many an innocent man in prison. It really isn't about who is guilty and who is innocent in this country, it really isn't, it's about who is convictable (I've personally heard prosecutors use that term) and about degrees of convictibility.
It's not only the legal system but the court of public opinion. Will we see anybody lining up outside of stadiums to protest Stalworth playing? I seriously doubt it, we didn't see it for Pac Man, Ray Lewis, etc. However, I can guarantee you that PETA will protest Vick playing. Why? Because, in our society dogs and animal rights have slowly become more valuable than that of humans.
Well, I know it's an emotional issue. But it really isn't that way in general. We euthanize 10's of thousands of dogs daily and it is only a misdemeanor in most places to kill a neighbors pet while many people have their lives ruined forever if they are involved in an accidental death of another person.

people serving years for marijuana possession while lenard little and donte stallworth serve less than six months combined, both for killing other people.
vick was screwed, its obvious he was totally over-sentenced, but thats just the tip of the ice berg
gotch had an interesting point; its not a case of innocence or guilt, it usually comes down to which side has the better lawyer.
